Black Explorer Subject Of New Project

Will Smith’s Overbrook Entertainment is developing a movie about the life of explorer/neuroscience professor Dr. S. Allen Counter. The film, which will be distributed by Sony, will focus on the life of Counter, director of the Harvard Foundation of Harvard University and author of a number of books about Africans and African-Americans. As an explorer, Dr. Counter discovered tribes of indigenous people of African descent living in the Andes in 1993. Will Smith, James Lassiter, Ken Stovitz and actress Debbie Allen are named as the producers, according to Variety.

Smith and Counter worked together in assisting victims of the earthquake in Haiti earlier this year.
